After a long week of work, there’s nothing better than packing up your camping gear on a Friday afternoon and spending a long weekend in the outback. Whether you like to camp near the beach, in the mountains, or on the river, being able to reach your campsite in only a few hours certainly has its perks.
Finding beautiful camping spots near the city has been a passion of mine as I don’t normally go on extended trips simply because running a business takes most of my time. One of the most beautiful parts of Australia to go camping is the west coast of Australia. Riddled with magnificent camping spots, I’ve had the pleasure of spending a lot of time finding the best camping sites near Perth. Here are my top 3 camping spots near Perth that are perfect for a weekend getaway.
Lane Poole Reserve
Located near Dwellingup about an hour and a half south of Perth is the very popular Lane Poole Reserve. The beauty about this camping spot is that there are about 10 different campsites, ranging from massive open spaces to more private areas that can fit only two sets of 4WD vehicles. The Murray River passes straight through the reserve making this campsite perfect for swimming, fishing, canoeing, and white-water rafting when the weather is good.
Fires are allowed on the reserve when the fire warning is low, and it can get quite chilly in winter so make sure you bring plenty of warm clothes. If you’re keen on 4WD and mountain bike tracks, Lane Poole Reserve has plenty of them in the surrounding area. Your standard National Park and camping fees apply at this campground, which is $12 per vehicle and roughly $7.50 to $10 per night, depending on which campsite you stay.[/responsivevoice]
